There is no doubt that waking up every morning is a miracle. There is an abundance of blessings right from the time of Tahajjud until daybreak. Don’t get me wrong; there are blessings in the entire 24-hour period.

However, according to the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), the peace and blessings found from the time of Tahajjud until daybreak outnumber the blessings you can get during the rest of the day (from sunrise to night).

Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) said:

“O you wrapped in garments (i.e., Prophet Muhammad)! Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. Half of it, or a little less than that, or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word. Verily, the rising by night is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah).” (Surah Al-Muzzammil 73:1-6)

There are tons of benefits to praying Tahajjud (night prayer), especially for seeking forgiveness, suppressing whims and desires, or asking for sustenance. Since I started, I have personally gained a lot from waking up to pray Tahajjud. The “Hour of Divine Closeness.”

1. The Hour of Divine Closeness.

Allah Himself swears by the night prayer. It is a divine and sacred moment where all the worlds are asleep, but hearts are awake. It is a moment when Allah, in His infinite mercy, descends to the lowest heaven and asks, “Who is calling upon Me so I may answer him?” (Sahih Muslim).
A moment when every creatures are calm and sleeping. When one is distraction-free. When tranquillity is present. A moment when Istijabah (when prayer is answered) is granted.

2. A Source of Spiritual Strength

One of the greatest blessings of Tahajjud is the purification of your soul. Each time you get up to pray Tahajjud, you train your nafs (soul) to obey rather than allowing it to control you. You equally develop emotional intelligence and wisdom. It also subdues your whims and desires. I have heard of many close relatives who got rid of addictions, desires, and whims simply by getting up for Tahajjud.

3. The Gateway to Barakah

Imagine transitioning your night from Tahajjud to Fajr (the dawn prayer). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “O Allah, bless my Ummah (nation) in their early mornings” (Tirmidhi).

If you begin your day with Fajr, you will see noticeable success. Allah will increase you in Rizq (sustenance), peace, Shifa (healing), and happiness. Your productivity increases significantly compared to those who don’t pray Fajr.

Personally, my deep work begins after Fajr. I get so hyper-focused on my work. By midday, it feels like I have achieved what others achieve in 12 hours.

4. Mental Alertness and Peace

I grew up learning from my father (may Allah have mercy on his soul) that the best way to win against the Shaytan every day is to get into a “winning mode” by praying Tahajjud and Fajr.

Since I have been praying both Salahs, I noticed mental clarity, and my heart has become light. I feel peace within. I feel more inspired to do more. I always advise people to try their best to engage themselves in these two prayers.

Some people usually find it difficult to wake up for Tahajjud. The best hack is to make the intention before going to bed that you are willing to wake up in the last third of the night. Also, you should have the habit of going to bed early—”early to bed, early to rise.” Plus, you get to feel the maximum tranquillity after these prayers

5. Protection and Guidance

How amazing is it getting under the shade of Allah’s protection just by praying Fajr. Allah will shield you from any form of harm and misguidance throughout the day. The virtues of praying Fajr prayer are many, but this particular verse is cited from the Quran: “Observe the prayer from the decline of the sun until the darkness of the night and the Fajr (dawn prayer). Indeed, the Fajr is witnessed by the Angels.”

Imagine, all the angels witness you while praying Fajr. There is nothing sweeter than that.

6. Routine and Custom of the Righteous

There is no way you can be a “self-acclaimed” righteous person if your blankets are very heavy to lift in the night. Let’s call a spade a spade. Unless for medical reasons, there is no way you won’t be susceptible to whims and desires when you are always neglecting praying Tahajjud and Fajr. Once you get used to these prayers, they will become a habit.

If you can’t get up, you can set up your alarm on your mobile phone. Personally, I wake up when it’s time to pray Tahajjud. Our brains work like muscles by training them in the gym. So, you need to train your brain to wake you up at a certain time.

7. The Best Time Dua Gets Answered

There are numerous proofs from the Quran and Hadiths that inform us of blessings in abundance for those who get up to pray Tahajjud and Fajr. This is the peak time when your prayers get answered. As long as you are sincere about your supplications, Allah is so merciful and forgiving. He will answer your prayers. He will also forgive your sins

8. Adding Consistency to One’s Life

Subconsciously, you teach your soul “consistency” when you maintain the habit of praying Tahajjud and Fajr. This consistency can be applied in other areas of life. If you can win a battle against sleep, you will be able to face any of life’s challenges. It will boost your confidence, emotional intelligence, and ability to succeed in your business or career. This is the foundation of being successful in this Dunya (world) and the Hereafter.

9. Ability to Increase Iman (Faith)

On a scale, the faith of people who have the habit of praying night prayers surpasses those who don’t. Tahajjud and Fajr prayers connect your soul, mind, and body. They soften your heart. They radiate light on your face so that people can feel your positive aura. I experience this myself, and most people I know who pray it also say they have experienced it.

10. Illumination for the Faithful

On the Day of Judgment, those who pray Tahajjud and Fajr will be able to cross the bridge called “Sirat” successfully because of the divine light they will be walking with. Their hearts will be illuminated as a result of praying Tahajjud and Fajr.

This bridge (Sirat) is said to be complex to cross. Some scholars stated that it is sharper than a sword; the bridge will be as thin as a hair strand, while the edges will be sharper than a sword. Nevertheless, those who are faithful will cross it effortlessly.
